Nutcracker Joy!

We went on the most wonderful field trip this past week. Our dear friends from Maine invited us to the Merrill Auditorium in Portland for a shortened student version of the nutcracker. It was performed by the Maine State Ballet.  It was narrated, and we were able to find out about all of the behind the scenes things that go on and how they do such cool things as making the Christmas tree grow, and having it snow!

The snow is actually 45 pounds of shredded paper in a huge bag in the ceiling area, and when it's time for the snow scene, someone shakes the bag and it snows! It was really neat!

The kids were especially excited about the mice! Before the show they came around and jazzed up the audience!
