A Father and Son Project....Ahhhh...What could be better!

Our dear Jonathan is always thinking and dreaming about things he can do! It's pretty amazing! He's truly going to be a great inventor one day, that's for sure! Below he and my nephew Gabe were trying to solve all of life's problems on the second night Gabe was staying with us! They truly are 2 peas in a pod for sure!

So...Jon and his dear friend Paul Bennett (a son to my dear dear friend Cindy who has 13 children!), they decided that they would like to build an airplane. That's right...an airplane like the kind Southwest uses! So they set about to have meetings of the mind, and drawing out the plans and there was literally smoke coming out of their ears! Jon was going crazy trying to figure it all out!

So...in comes Glenn on one of the discussions. He recommended that Jon start a BIT smaller than an airplane and Glenn suggested maybe that Jon and Edward and Glenn could rebuild a go-kart complete with small engine installation and everything that goes with that. Jon was sold immediately on the idea! And so....we started to look on Craig's list for a go-kart frame to start with! Glenn even asked for prayers with me that he would actually be diligent and follow through with the project and be able to finish strong with the boys.

As Glenn and I were looking on Craig's list, Glenn was discouraged by the very high prices of the go-karts, and there really weren't any fixer upper types on the list, but we kept scrolling down.....Glenn informed me that he really only wanted to spend about $50.00 on the frame. Hmmmm...I said a quick prayer and kept scrolling!

Then...on a month old post or so...we saw it. A go-kart frame in Hillsborough, NH, for you guessed it....$50.00!! Glenn looked at the photos and asked the man if it was still available, and it was. So...last Friday, Glenn took the day off, and surprised the boys with a road trip to go over to Hillsborough and get the go-kart frame. The boys had NO idea that we had found one! Oh my...they were soooooooo excited! You could have peeled them off the ceiling when they arrived home with the "goods" and wanted to show us all!

And here it is:

Isn't it beautiful?? Can't you see the excitement on the boys faces...Including Glenn!!!!

It turns out that Glenn had a good sized engine on hand here that is going to work just fine in the go-kart. This is going to be a wonderful father and son project, I can already tell!

Above is the engine and the boys have already enjoyed helping Glenn install it. Now...we had to order some parts for the go-kart. A clutch, a sprocket, a belt and then there will need to be a new air filter and housing for it, too. Glenn is going to teach them all about the engine parts and how the go-kart will run. Then Glenn is going to teach them how to weld, and they are going to make a roll bar to go over the top. Edward says they'll paint the go-kart 1/2 red and 1/2 blue as these are Edward and Jon's favorite colors.

Cost of the go-kart frame--$50.00, cost of the engine...$50.00, cost of the other parts ordered...$129.00....time with Dad learning all of these amazing skills from my incredibly talented and gifted hubby....PRICELESS!!! That's right!!

Soon we'll be hearing...."gentlemen...start your engines!"....

I promise to keep you posted and updated with photos!

"Don't you see
that children are God's best gift,
the fruit of the womb
his generous legacy?
Like a warrior's fistful of arrows
are the children of a vigorous youth.
Oh, how blessed are you parents,
with your quivers full of children!
Your enemies
don't stand a chance against you;
you'll sweep them right off
your doorstep."
(Psalm 127:3-5, MSG)
